Stutzman Plating was founded in 1950 by Virgil Stutzman and his brother Royal. The '50s were the heyday of the metal plating industry in California, and Virgil found himself at the helm of a bustling enterprise. Serving the burgeoning automotive industry, Virgil brought his sons on board as teens, and just like that, a generational family business was born. In the early years, Stutzman Plating had the distinction of plating everything from famous race cars like the Atlas Chrome Special, to production jobs with thousands of parts passing through the plating line each day. Yet over time, the industry dramatically changed. The 1980's saw the loss of manufacturing and metal plating in Los Angeles to oversees, so under the direction of brothers Jim and Joe Stutzman, they pivoted to focusing their expertise on custom jobs and developed high-end specialty finishes.
Stutzman Plating is one of the last surviving metal plating companies in Los Angeles. With three generations at the helm, Stutzman Plating has been recognized by the City of Los Angeles as a Legacy Business for their sustainability as a longstanding enterprise. A deep-rooted small business with long-held ties to the community, Stutzman Plating is proud to still be standing after 75 years as a trusted mom-and-pop shop. Supported by long term employees whose tenors are also multi-generational, Stutzman Plating is distinguished by those that work for them.
Having seen their share of history, and survived through it all, no one knows more about metal plating (or stock car racing) than Joe and Jim Stutzman. Good, down to earth folk who tell it like it is, they consult their clients with unparalleled expertise. And if you happen to have raced stock cars at a Southern California racetrack in the last century, there are conversations waiting to be had.
